The All-New 2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueHybrid

Mercedes-Benz showcases its development of the ultimate luxury hybrid vehicle in the 2010 S400. The first in the Mercedes-Benz line-up with a hybrid drive, it is slated to compete with the Lexus LS 600h L, a gasoline-electric hybrid that gets an average of 21 MPG. The S400 ups the ante with an estimated 23 MPG in the city and 33 on the highway. This is very impressive considering the car weighs nearly two and a half tons.

Driving the S400 is unquestionably smooth, even with the two different power sources. Their integration is seamless and provides acceleration powerful enough to propel the car to 62 mph in 7.2 seconds. Luxury features are plentiful in the S-Class hybrid, including a double view driver interface in which the front passenger can watch a movie without distracting the driver and “Night View Assist” which can detect pedestrians ahead on the road. There is also an instrument panel that displays the flow of power between engine and battery.
The S400 Hybrid presents a fuel-efficient option for affluent buyers who care about the environment yet aren’t willing to compromise style and luxurious appeal.
